Every pair of Supershoes is funded by donations from kind sponsors, who come in all shapes and sizes…..

From parents of previous recipients who want to ‘pay forward’ the gift of Supershoes, to fundarisers who have organised an event of some description in order to make a donation. We receive one-off payments from some and regular sponsorship from others. Some want to remain anonymous, whilst others are happy to share their donation and/or story.

One hundred and seven kilometers! Yes, you read that correctly! Cairon completed this ultra-marathon run in memory of his Dad, who passed away from cancer in 2020. Cairon chose Supershoes as one of three charities he wanted to support, because his Dad was a great supporter of young people. Thank you so much Cairon; your Superhuman effort has created smiles for 22 poorly children and young people! We hope you will be putting your poor, tired feet up for a while, as this 18.5 hour challenge with 6000 feet of elevation must have been gruelling, to say the least. Here at Supershoes HQ, we’re all exhausted just thinking about it. Well done and thank you hardly seems to cover this triumph.

centre:mk has helped us raise a phenomenal £10,873.50 by adopting us as their ‘Charity of the Year’. Funds were raised through their wishing well in Santa’s Christmas grotto, sale of reindeer glasses & a coin drop, as well as staff getting involved with a bake sale, charity gift wrapping service at the centre, Mr Simms Olde Sweet shop donated sweets for our Spooky walk & Bravissimo held a fundraising event in store. During the past 12 months Supershoes have also held bucket raffles, paint demonstrations, took part in a fashion festival, put on a Lego Walk in Middleton Hall, staged a Halloween spooky walk & held a series of Create-a-Cap workshops at the centre.

Charlie, a local nurse based in Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital has been named Nurse of the Year in a competition to recognise outstanding nurses, organised by Hays Healthcare. Wigan based Charlie, won the award for her outstanding nursing & dedication to her patients & their parents - & she chose Supershoes as her sponsored Charity to receive the £1000 prize … enough to create 20 pairs of Supershoes for the children in Royal Manchester Hospital. A bitter-sweet story behind these lovely sponsors: Colin met Sue when she was a Paediatric Clinical Oncology Nurse Specialist, working on the ward where his son was being treated for ALL. Very sadly, Colin’s son died after a relapse. Sue and Colin stayed in touch, and eventually got married. Sue has been friends with Jeanette, who was also a nurse in the same field, and is now one of our Super Trustees, as well as a sponsor and Super Artist, so she came to know more about Supershoes when Jeanette joined our team. Both couples are firm friends, and everyone has a keen interest in childhood cancer matters. They all decided to move away from giving gifts at Christmas and donating to charity instead, and they all decided that Supershoes was a perfect fit for their idea! What a lovely idea to give something that has so much meaning to you all. Thank you, Colin and Sue for supporting us and bringing more smiles to Super brave kids!
