Inspiration from heartbreak

Last month was Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and you may have read some inspirational stories then, but we are happy to share inspirational stories of brave youngsters and their families, doing all they can to work towards a positive outcome on the rollercoaster journey they never wanted to take, at any time!

This is an inspirational story, although the inspiration for it comes from a place of heartbreak. Super Georgia was just 5 when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 high-risk Neuroblastoma. She embarked on the gruelling regime of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and also had a bone marrow transplant. Two years later, it looked as though the treatment had worked. However, just over a year after her all-clear, Georgia and her family received the devastating news that the cancer had returned. Super brave Georgia battled for a further 16 months, but despite her best efforts, and that of the medical teams, she passed away, holding her mummy’s hand, and surrounded by love.

So where is the inspiration? It’s in her family and friends, who, inspired by Georgia’s tenacity, wanted to do everything they could to keep her in their thoughts. Georgia received the gift of Supershoes while she was undergoing treatment, and her mum, Karen, wanted other children with cancer to benefit from the positive experience that a pair of Supershoes brings. And so, with Georgia’s 16th birthday approaching in August 2022, she decided to set herself a target: to raise enough funds for 16 pairs of Supershoes. What a wonderful gesture by which to remember her beautiful daughter!

But the inspiration doesn’t stop there. Because of how Angel Georgia inspired others, the family not only raised enough for 16 pairs of Supershoes: their generosity has funded 47 pairs!

Everyone at Supershoes HQ was absolutely speechless when this total came in to us. “Thank you” really doesn’t seem enough to express how we feel. In memory of a little girl and her family who mourn her every day and love her dearly, we can now put smiles on the faces of 47 more children and young people who have a tough journey ahead. We wish them all well, and from the bottom of our hearts we send love and a huge wish for peace of mind to Angel Georgia’s friends and family. What a very special little girl!
