Sarah's Diary

Welcome to September!

With Team GB’s amazing success in the Rio Olympics, and our hopes now riding on our Paralympic team for more personal successes and to bring home more gold medals, I’ve been constantly amazed and inspired by the dedication shown by our athletes in their quest towards their goals. In their winners’ interviews, all of them paid tribute to their coaches, and their families for the love, motivation and support, both practical and emotional. A personal “team” is central to what they do.

Go Gold

September is an important month for us here at Supershoes, because it’s also Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The strapline for the month is “Go Gold”. Children with cancer are represented by the gold ribbon. Our Super brave children have their personal goals too: to hear good news from their next scan, blood test, consultation; to get through their next treatment. They too, have a Super team supporting them: parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, friends, social workeand medical staff, who give them the support they need on their journeys.

We’re always so impressed to hear their stories too. Like an athlete, they have to face challenges, stay positive, work hard and take care of themselves. On days when it’s a struggle, a little boost makes all the difference, and that’s where, with your help, we come in. A gift of a pair of Supershoes makes a massive difference to these children. Have a look at their stories, pictures and what the Supershoes mean to them here.

September is also traditionally the month for harvesting. It’s the month when the hard work preparing the ground, planting the crops and looking after them while they grow pays off, when the crop is successful. We see the results of your fundraising “harvest”, every Monday and Tuesday, when we send out Converse trainers to our Super Artists for customising, and then dispatch the beautiful, customised shoes to the Super brave children that you’ve helped us to make feel very special and brighten their day. Thank you for all that you do to help us, and please keep up the awesome work!

It’s all happening in September, it seems! This month, we’re super excited to be delivering our 1000th pair of Supershoes. It’s a real milestone in our 3-year journey, and you’ll be able to read all about it in a brand-new newsletter, which we’re launching later this month. If you’re on our mailing list, you’ll automatically receive a copy of the newsletter. If you’d like to subscribe to the newsletter, please scroll to the bottom of this page and fill in the ‘Get Updates’ box. It looks like this….

Finally, a question: Is there a business local to you who would like to adopt a charity and sponsor a pair (or two) of Supershoes? If there is, please put them in touch with us; we’d love to speak to them.

With love, peace & gratitude.
